We were in our local fruit & veg shop a while ago, and came across a box of small, roundish green things, labelled “almonds”. How strange, we thought – almonds don’t look like that! Well, not the kind we’re used to, anyway. These are fresh green almonds, before the shell has hardened and been cracked open to get the nut out. The lighter bit in the middle is the part that hardens into the almond nut.
To eat these little gems, simply cut them in half length-ways (as shown in the photo), sprinkle with a little sea salt, and pop into your mouth – delicious! The taste is crisp and fresh, not really comparable to anything else I can think of. If you see them, give them a go – definitely not your ordinary kind of snack.
